Letter to Rush, an Editorial
By Dad
When the next major lull in the Democrat Sit Com comes, it would be a good time for Operation Chaos to jump on the Florida and Michigan redo/no redo fiasco.
Voting is arguably democracy’s most fundamental right. In F&M, the voters have been deprived of that right – totally, literally, unquestionably, absolutely disenfranchised. Through no fault of their own, but by their own party leaders. And so far the Main Stream Media (MSM) has been letting them get away with it. Where is the outrage? Why is no one demanding a solution? And they can’t blame the Republicans.
The Democrats complained vociferously about “dimpled chads” and “butterfly ballots” in Florida in 2000, arguing essentially that those voters were disenfranchised. “Let every vote count” was their war chant. Now the voters are actually prevented from voting. In the very same state! And the MSM is letting them get away with it. And they can’t blame the Republicans.
The Democrats claimed that Bush was “selected, not elected” in 2000. But some of the solutions to F&M amount to just that. “Divide the delegates.” “Apportion the delegates.” They’ve got to be kidding. If they don’t do a redo, the leaders – mostly typical old white males - will be doing the selecting, not the voters doing the electing. Coupled with the SuperSelectors, the voters will have a very diminished roll. And this is the party of the common man? And the MSM is letting them get away with it.
No matter how they do it, solving the F&M problem will fundamentally amount to changing the rules in the middle of the game. Ahmadinejad, Chavez, and, and Castro must be LOLing. Fundamental to democracy and sports is that you don’t change the rules while the game is going on. But that is what they are unapologetically doing. And the MSM and the courts are letting them get away with it.
It is fundamental that the candidates themselves don’t set the rules, especially after the game has started. Rule setting should be done by somewhat disinterested parties independent of the candidates to level the playing field for all candidates. But most of the proposed solutions to the F&M problem directly involve the candidates. And each of them is attempting to arrive at solution that benefits him/her, oblivious to the fairness to the voting public. Where is the voter input? Where is MSM input and critique?
What kind of message is this fiasco sending to the world? For 8 years the Democrats have harping on our poor image abroad. Now the Democrats can’t even get the singular most important pillar of democracy right. And judging from what we hear in the MSM, the Democrats are nowhere near a solution. The only solution I see is stick your head in the sand and hope it goes away. As we get closer to the convention, is the MSM going to start to howl? Don’t bet on it.
Where is the Florida Supreme Court? Weren’t they the champions of the supposedly disenfranchised voters in 2000? In fact, where are all the courts in this fiasco? Where are the lawsuits?
Where is the Democratic leadership? (That’s surely an oxymoron, right now.) F&M surely is indicative of their inability to solve even the most basic and fundamental machinery of our democracy. And this isn’t even a hard problem! And we want to turn over the government to them?
Where is Jimmy Carter when you need him? Will even Carter, with a straight face, be able to declare this process/election fair?
