John Meyer literally takes you on a journey with him to FOB 1 in Vietnam into hostile enemy NVA territory. Load your grenades, your CAR 15, a sweater and a can of fruit and you will be on your way accross the fence. I couldn't put this book down. He puts you right in the action with him during many of his secret missions over the fence in Cambodia and Laos. The story takes you into the Military Assistance Command Special Operations Group during the Vietnam War, and with the Americans and indigenous troops who ran recon in Laos, into the valley of death, the A Sha Valley. Our Special Operators knew a lot more about the Ho Chi Minh trail, through North to South Vietnam, especially through Laos and Cambodia, due to the courageous spirit of these special worriers. That was their mission. This book takes you along these special missions into the Prairie Fire Area of Operation. “I would like to claim a Prairie Fire Emergency,” was often the voice screaming on the radio to get these folks out of AK-47 rifle fire and hostile NVA activity. Many did not return, many will have horror stories years later, and many are true heroes of our armed forces. Their stories will be told, and this book is one of several that bring out solider stories from the front. It was a very riveting book. I have the deepest respect for these men. I would like to meet John as he lives in Oceanside, and I hear he occasionally visits my brother’s brewery. I want to hear more, and I want to meet the ledged and compare army stories with the author.
